So we went to a friend's house today. They have a very lovable Boxer named Max. He loves kids and licked Hendrix all over his little face. Suddenly Hendrix started turning red and broke out in hives. Then the swelling started...that's when I started to worry. I called Hendrix's doctor and they said they needed to see him right away. Since I was about 45 minutes away from the doctor, they said I needed to head to Urgent Care because they didn't want me to drive that long and risk Hendrix having breathing problems. We gave him some Benedryl and rushed out. Thankfully by the time we got to Urgent Care, the redness and hives seemed to be subsiding but the swelling was still really bad. By the time the doctor saw him the swelling was also getting better. They gave me a prescription for some steroids for Hendrix for the next week and sent us on our way.

I don't foresee a dog joining our family anytime in the near future.

Colorado Trip for Matt's Dad's Birthday

20 Months and Somersaults

Hendrix is 20 months today!!! He started doing somersaults today, see video below. We went in for his 18 month doctors appointment(really late) earlier this week and these were his stats:

Weight 24: pounds 11 ounces - 20th percentile
Height: 33.4" - 60th percentile
Head: 19.2" - 70th percentile

It seams he's learning more words every day. Some of his newer ones are goofball, milk (mia-mia), gone, done, store, cookie, cracker (caca), dinner (deedee), eat, wow, woah, weeee, poo poo, wee wee, doo doo(because I tell him he's in deep doo doo), and shoe. I know there are more, just can't think of them right now.

He's still so busy and active. I recently had to give our entertainment center a face lift of sorts and took off all the handles to the drawers because he was using them to scale it like a rock wall! Jumping, dancing, swimming and somersaults are some of his favorite activities.

I think he's working on the terrible 2's! He's recently started a new fun thing where he chews up food, spits it into his hand and throws it on the floor. Spitting in general is one of his new tricks. He also hits, throws mild (so far) fits and in general doesn't listen to a thing I have to say to him! Boy oh boy, the next few years should be interesting!

Hendrix is fearless in the pool! Loves to be thrown in the air into the water!

We found a new flotation thing that is AWESOME! It gives him the security of the arm band floaties with out the constriction from the blow up kind plus it's got a piece across his chest for more added floating security
I found a peanut butter substitute that actually tastes like peanut butter and it was a huge hit! Here's Hendrix's first PB&J

First popsicle wasn't as much of a hit. He licked it occasionally but kept blowing on it as if it was hot and wouldn't eat it!

I had to show him how to lick it by really exaggerating sticking out my tongue so that's how he licked it too!

Today Hendrix was in need of his first band-aid. He pinched his finger and some of his hand in the closet door and ripped off some skin. Here's my poor sad boy! And I promise, he had calmed down and stopped crying before I took the picture, but he started crying again because he was mad that I was taking pictures.

Well, it's been a while since I've blogged last, we've been too busy having fun!

Hendrix loves the pool and almost every day wakes up saying "Pool! Pool! Pool!" so we go swimming a lot! He's also learned a bunch of new words in the last week. He now says Kitty, Cookie, Car, Gouda (yes that's right, Gouda as in the cheese!), Woo Hoo, and of course Pool.

Today we went to Liberty Park in Salt Lake with some friends, here's some of the fun we had:

It's been a busy week already and it's only Tuesday!

Gave Hendrix another major haircut last night. It accidently ended up being a buzz cut, luckily his hair grows really fast. See the pool party pictures for this "before" hair.

Pee Eew Stinky! and other cute things

Just wanted to jot down a few of the cute things that Hendrix does. One of his most recent things is when he's got a dirty diaper and I say "Pee Eew Stinky!" he scrunches up his little face and waves his hand in front of his nose.

Whenever he's being ornery or naughty, I tell him "None of that!" and he has heard it enough times that he now repeats it and says "No Na Da!"

When something goes my way, I frequently say "Nice" and Hendrix now repeats that. On the other hand, when something doesn't go my way I usually say "Boo" and Hendrix says that all the time.

I seem to drop things all the time and I guess I groan a lot when I have to pick something up so now whenever Hendrix drops something and has to pick it up, he groans.

Matt will grab Hendrix's hands and they run up and down the hallway making race car noises. When Matt gets tired and stops, Hendrix will continue to run up and down the hall by himself making car noises.

We went to the pool yesterday for the first time this year (since it's been unseasonably cold), I'll post pictures later, but now Hendrix says pool all the time. I think he must have had fun!

I think Hendrix has watched his father play Mortal Kombat one too many times because now when Matt wins a match, Hendrix puts his palms together the same way the character does! Plus when the character turns into a dragon, Hendrix roars! Oh Boy!

Hendrix has an ever growing arsinal of words which includes: Uh, yeah, yes, nanight, barks like a dog, growls like a dinosaur, no, banana (nana), dada, mama, up, uh-huh, instead of Quack Quack for a duck, he says duck, duck and he tries to mimic the sounds or the sylables of words like whe I put on his socks I always say "One socka socka, two socka socka" and he always says "sah, sah" but by far my favorite thing he says is the dyslexic kitty! Instead of "Meow" he usually says "Aaaam" in a high pitched voice and then he sticks out his little bottom lip!

When Hendrix was about 11 months old, he figured out how to turn on Matt's stereo and get it to play a CD. Since then, it's a daily routine, Matt gets home and Hendrix runs to our room with him to turn on the stereo and have a little dance party! Hendrix and Butters the cat seem to be developing a love/hate relationship. More so that Hendrix loves her and she hates him! She is finally getting to the point where she'll let him get near her and even pet her sometimes. Today she was sitting on the arm of the chair near Hendrix and unfortunately(for her) our little boy is in the stage of life where he's exploring the world with his mouth. He leaned over and bit her, not hard, just enough to startle her and he ended up with a mouth full of fur!

I'm beginning to have a deeper understanding of the phrase "Boys will be boys"

A few weeks ago Hendrix decided that a child-proof lock couldn't keep him out of the DVD drawers in our entertainment center. So he pulled really hard on the drawer and ripped the facing off, thus opening the drawer. Then this evening, he was having a hard time seeing through our blinds so he broke them and now has a great view out our back door.

Surprise Visit to Grandma's

A few weeks ago Matt and I were talking about what to get for his mom for Mother's Day and were having a hard time coming up with ideas to get for a wonderful woman who has everything! Then we realized that the only thing that she doesn't have is a grandson who lives in Colorado. That's when we hatched a plan to fly to Colorado and surprise her. We had Matt's sister pick us up from the airport and headed to Matt's parents house. When we got there, of course they weren't home! I made Hendrix a cute little shirt (See photo below) and when they got home he was standing just inside their door waiting. Matt's mom was so surprised! Hendrix loved their huge grassy yard, having fun with Aunt Megan (who put olives on his fingers) and hanging out with Grandma and Papa

Hendrix kept grabbing the bottom of his shirt and pulling it over his knees. It cracks me up!

On our drive to the airport, Hendrix kept strumming his lips with his toes! Such a nut!

Stuck no more!

Yesterday Hendrix managed to get his poor little leg very stuck in his crib 3 separate times in just over 12 hours time! That was the last straw and something HAD to be done! I went to the store and found some amazing heavy duty nylon mesh, a ton of velcro and other supplies and put a plan together for keeping my little guy safe and this is what I came up with:

This morning we went to a neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt and I think Hendrix had a pretty good time. He didn't quite get the concept, more often than not, he'd find an egg and chuck it on the ground to smash it open or put it in someone else's basket. Thankfully the hunt was controlled so that each child ended up with the same amount of eggs.

Poor Hendrix! He's now gotten to the point that if he sticks his little legs through the bars of his crib, they get stuck and he wakes up screaming in pain. It makes me so sad and frustrated! We have a crib bumper that is supposed to prevent him from putting his legs through the bar but he either stands on the bumper and smooshes it down or he just puts his feet through the bar above the bumper. I'm kind of at my wits end and am not sure what to do!

This was a few weeks ago. His poor little leg was wedged in there so tightly that I literally had to climb in the crib with him to try to free his leg and even then I was worried that I was going to have to either saw the bars or butter his leg! You can see on his knees the bruises from past episodes of getting stuck.

This is how I found him sleeping the other night and gave me much insight into how he keeps getting stuck! You can see the brown crib bumper is firmly in place but is in no way preventing Hendrix from sticking his feet through the bars, if anything it's kind of aiding him by propping his feet up! Thankfully after I took this picture I was able to move his legs without waking him.
Last night was not so fun. Hendrix managed to wake up screaming twice because he'd managed to get his leg stuck at 8:30pm and at 5:30am! Poor little guy! I really wish he'd knock it off!

So I had an old friend from High School take our family pictures while we were in Colorado for Christmas. Through a long, drawn out and possibly exageraged chain of events, I've finally now received the pictures! Then I had to go through and edit them, I guess 3 months wasn't long enough for the photographer to edit the pictures. But with all that venting done, here are some of my favorites!

Skinny little Fatty

Hendrix had his 15 month check up today. We lovingly call him a little fatty but he's actually getting pretty skinny. He's been holding steady at the same weight of 22 pounds for several months. The doctor isn't a bit worried about this though since he's getting taller and is super active. As Matt put it, when Hendrix is awake he's going at 500 MPH and when he's asleep he slows down to 250 MPH! Hendrix is right on track with his height at 31" and his ever expanding skull has slowed it's growth and is only in the 60th percentile instead of the massive 75% that it used to be!

Doctor says everything looks excellent and Hendrix is perfect in every way!

He's becoming so helpful. Whenever the dishwasher is open, he runs over and starts grabbing plates and silverware and throws them on the floor. Not sure if he thinks he's helping or if he just likes all the noise! When I'm loading the dryer, he'll go grab whatever he can, be it his grandma blanket or sippy cup, and put it in the dryer along with the wet clothes. During his tubby time, if I ask him if he's done, he says yes, pulls up the drain in the tub and starts sticking his foam letters to the wall (since that's where I stick them so they dry).

He loves reading books and actually is getting to the point where he'll sit still long enough to flip through the pages and I'm able to read a few words to him before boredom sets in.

I think disciplining him in the future is going to be interesting. For now, he couldn't care less! When he throws food on the floor and I scold him and tell him "NO!" he laughs. When he does something that he knows he's not supposed to do, he shakes his head no while doing it.

Trip to DC

Hendrix and I had a good trip to Virginia and Washington DC to be with my dear friend Amy as she was sealed to her family for time and all eternity in the DC Temple. I unfortunately didn't get any pictures with my camera on the big day because I was in charge of Amy's camera.

Some of my friends raved about these little hand-held baby snacks so I thought we'd try them out. I put some in the cart at the store and gave Hendrix one to play with. When I went to check out, one was missing but I just assumed it was the one he'd been playing with and he threw it while I wasn't looking. Well, when we left the store, I found the missing one in my purse, I guess Hendrix put it in there and I inadvertently stole it! I didn't feel like going back so I figure I'll just have them ring me up for an extra one next time.

Hendrix hasn't had a haircut since I nearly accidently gave him a buzz cut in late November and he was getting shaggy! So even though I was scared...I broke down and gave him a haircut tonight and I think it went pretty well!

Future dentist, doughnut holes are good and other silliness

Hendrix is 14 months old now! We had a busy day yesterday so I didn't get a chance to weigh him but at his allergist appointment yesterday they measured him and said he was 29.5 inches which doesn't seem right so I don't know. The allergist had good things to say. He told me that it looks like everything I've been doing with his egg and dairy allergy seem to be great. He said if Hendrix gets small amounts of dairy and doesn't have a reaction, to keep giving it to him. Because of the severity of his egg reaction we're still to stay away from things like scrambled eggs. The other day I have Hendrix a piece of my rice cake that had a teeny bit of peanut butter on it and Hendrix broke out in hives so the allergist said to stay away from peanuts and shellfish until he is at least 3 years old so he can communicate with us if he's having a reaction. Thankfully the severity of his reactions still isn't bad enough that I have to read labels and be worried if any of his food has come in contact with peanuts or shellfish so that makes things easier!

He's getting to be so much fun, does new and silly things every day! One of his latest things is blowing on his food to make sure it's not too hot. It is so cute when he does it to his Cheerios!

He LOVES brushing his teeth! He'll sit there and let me brush them for him and then I give him a different toothbrush to play with and he'll continue to brush his teeth for the longest time after! Do we have a future dentist on our hands? You be the judge.

He woke up from his nap with some nasty death breath so I brushed his teeth and he was still waking up and a bit zoney in these pictures but they crack me up!

The other day I got some doughnut holes at the store and gave Hendrix half of one after lunch for dessert. I guess he really liked it because he'd take a bite and say "MMMMM!" it was so cute!

I was cleaning up Hendrix's stuffed animals and he got so excited and started burying himself in them so I helped him out and we had an E.T. moment!

He has figured out that the back of our massage chair has an opening so he sticks his little feet through it and stands on the base of the chair. It's so funny, he looks like the little no-legged boy.

I got this cute little outfit on clearance the other day. It's a size 18 months and I thought it would be good just to hang out in around the house. I tried it on Hendrix today just to see how big it is. Yeah, it's actually kind of tight on the arms and legs and fits him perfectly in length. How is it that my 13 month old is barely fitting into 18 month clothing?

Also, i think he looks SO much like Matt in this picture and he also looks like a little boy instead of my baby!!!!

Today we had a bad messy diaper incident and I asked Hendrix if he was a poop machine. He doesn't frequently say no but today he was very adamant about the fact that he wasn't a poop machine and I was able to catch it on video. He cracks me up!

13 Months, recent pictures and videos

Yet another month has come and gone! Little boy is 13 months! He weighs 22 pounds 6 ounces and is 30" tall. The other day I realized at 13 months, he's only 1" away from being half my height!

He's such a smart and BUSY boy! He loves climing into and on anything, his favorites being the entertainment center, livingroom furnature and kitchen drawers. When I read him a book about animals and make animal noises he tries to mimic the sounds. If I ask him if he has a dirty diaper, he yells out "YES" and runs away laughing. He recently caught on to giving a high five and usually does a "pow" noise to go with it. He's so proud of himself since he figured out how to climb on the livingroom chairs. He'll get a toy and walk over to the chair with it, climb on the chair and sit in it for the longest time contently playing with the toy. He babbles and makes so many noises all day long. My favorite is when he's kind of shouting and starts hollering really loud-it cracks me up! He still loves music and will dance to anything. If he really likes a song he'll basically do baby squats up and down to the melody. I think Hendrix really misses Matt on the nights he has school. The other day a Brawny paper towel commercial came on the TV and when the Brawny man came on Hendrix ran up to the TV shouting "DADADADA" So cute and so sad!

Tubby time fun-Hendrix loves splashing himself in the face! Even though he seems shocked every time it happens, he just goes back for more!

Grandma Blankets

Before Hendirix was born, Matt's mom made him 2 sweet little blankets. In the last few months Hendrix has become really attached to them. Of all the blankets he has, he really gravitates to those two blankets. He sleeps with one and drags the other one around with him all day. If I ask him where his Grandma blanket is, he runs around until he finds it, drags it over to the carpet and dives into it and rolls around in it. He'll put it around his shoulders or over his head, he really just loves them so much. He must know that the blankets were made with the love that only a Grandma can give!

I've been working on "If you're happy and you know it" with Hendrix and finally caught his antics on video. He usually does pretty will with clap your hands. He tries to do stomp your feet but can't do it if he's standing so he sits down and kicks his little feet-it's SO cute!

So for the past few days I've been hearing Hendrix say something that sounded a lot like Sh*t but I haven't been completely positive until today. This morning he was hungry and I was trying to get his food together and he was pitching a fit and hanging all over me and screaming his lungs out. I was kind of at the end of my rope and told him to go sit down and (shame on me) punctuated it with a "Sh*t!" He stops his hollering, looks at me, throws his hands up in the air in exasperation and clear as day says "Jit!"

Awesome! I get the bad mom of the year award! He's not even 13 months and already has a potty mouth!

He's recently become fascinated with the dishwasher, we now have to keep it locked closed at all times because he's figured out how to open it. Last night Matt had jelly beans and Hendrix wanted them really really badly. Matt had the leg rest up on the chair so Hendrix couldn't climb up that way and decided to climb the side of the chair instead! We were fortunate enough to get to go to Colorado for Christmas and Hendrix's 1st birthday and spend time with Matt's mom, dad and sister. A good time was had by all!

11 Months Old!

Yet again, I can't believe how fast time is going! He's getting so big!

21 pounds, 13 ounces and 29.5" long

He's walking a lot now. He does the cutest fish face. When we tell him to be strong, he balls up his little fists and raises them above his head and grits his teeth! He saw Matt snapping his fingers the other night and has been tring to figure out how to do it ever since. He's not much of a talker, babbles a lot, says Mama and Dada, Tedah-which I think is kitty, says yeah and yes and when I tell him "No, No" he'll either nod his head and say yes or he'll look at me and say nana.

Today I took Hendrix in to get his blood drawn for his allergy testing and now I know why I've been puting it off for nearly a month. Poor little guy! He's so fat that they had a hard time finding a good vein on him and had to try both of his arms. He bawled his little eyes out but in all reality, he took it like a champ! He cried harder when they put the tourniquet on than when they were rooting around in his arms with the needle. Hopefully we won't have to have anything like that done again for a very very long time!

I think the expression on his face in this picture says it all. He's got a little light blue wrap around both of his elbows where they tried to get blood.

It's Halloween morning and I guess Hendrix didn't get the memo that he's too young for trick or treating because he learned a new trick anyway!

And best part is I got his very first little steps on video! He was being pretty silly this morning so I grabbed the camera and started filming. Next thing I knew he'd taken 2 little steps!

The video doesn't exactly show a whole lot but he's standing by himself, not holding on to me and he takes two tiny steps!

Hooray! I'm so so so proud of our little guy!

Tales of Bath Time Shenanigans

Just a few funny stories of Hendrix in the bath tub:

I don't know why but the boy is fascinated with the toilet! He's got a ton of toys in the tub but insists on trying to touch the toilet. No matter how clean I keep it, I'm still not going to let him play with the toilet! So it's gotten to the point that merely saying "no" doesn't do anything so I either gently swat his hand while I say "no" or move his hand and sit him down in the tub.

Tonight Hendrix decided to test the boundries. He'd get his hand about an inch from the toilet and let it hover there and look at me as if to say "I'm not touching it" then he'd clap his hands and do it all over again!

Also, Hendrix likes to throw his toys out of the tub and if I don't retreive them quickly enough, he tries to get them himself and winds up diving out of the tub head first! Tonight we tried something new, every time he threw a toy out of the tub I picked it up, said "All gone" and showed him that I was putting the toy in the basket and he couldn't have it back.

Finally one by one the tub was emptied of all toys and it was just Hendrix and water in the tub. He defiantly stood up in the middle of the tub and began playing with the only "toy" I'd never be able to take away from him-his little boy bits!

This morning we went over to our neighbors house for the Halloween Carnival that she had.

Hendrix was Yoda but his Yoda robe had sleeves that were way long and billowy so it didn't last long but I did manage to get the Yoda hat to stay on him for a while!

10 Months Old!

I know I say this every month, but I can't believe it's been 10 months already!

Hendrix is so busy these days! He is getting really good at standing without holding onto something and can now stand in the middle of the room without pulling up on anything! He edges furniture but hardly touches the couch while he's walking so I suspect he'll be walking on his own any day now!

I had my hats listed on etsy.com but they charge me to list the item, they charge me to sell the item and then Paypal charges me when I get paid for the item. Plus if the etsy listing doesn't sell in a certain amount of time it expires and I have to re-list it. I just decided there were too many hands in my pockets trying to get the money I make for creating my hats!

Allergies

Hendrix has broken out in hives several times since we started feeding him real food and I've pretty much narrowed it down to dairy products. So last Wednesday at Hendrix's 9 month appointment I talked to the pediatrician about weaning and he said before we start Hendrix on cow's milk, we'd better get his allergies checked out. We went to the allergist today who tested him for egg, dairy and soy allergies. Poor little guy has a moderate dairy allergy, a kind of major egg allergy but no allergy to soy. All the red splotches in the picture show an allergic reaction to egg yolks, egg whites and dairy. We've got to go to Children's Hospital to get blood work done to measure just how allergic he is. Thankfully the doctor said he'll most likely outgrow the allergy before he goes to school.

Evil toy of death

Who would have thought that a toy could be SO terrifying! The batteries on this toy have been running low for a long time and the center button that spins the wheel wasn't working so I decided to change the batteries. I gave it to Hendrix and when he flipped it over on it's front, it pushed the big orange button and the spinning wheel made a loud whirring noise on the floor. It scared Hendrix so badly that he started bawling and now just the mere sight of this toy brings on tears! I tried digging the dying batteries out of the trash but could only find 2 of the 3 and I guess the 1 new one was enough to make the center wheel work so the toy is still scary! Silly boy!

I've just got to take a minute to brag about how smart my little guy is. His latest trick is climbing. He'll take his box of baby wipes or his toy drum or toy piano, bring it over to the edge of the couch and climb on the toy so that he can try to climb on the couch. It amazes me that such a little guy has the thought process to come up with using toys to help him climb up higher onto other things!

And Lastly, who doesn't like a little splashing in the tub?
