5 Months Old!

Hendrix is 5 months old today!

He's 16 pounds, 3 ounces which means he's now more than doubled his birth weight of 8 pounds. He's 26.5 inches long which means he's grown 6 inches in 5 months!

I can't believe how big he's getting and how smart he is! His little personality is really starting to unfold. I think he's going to be a headstrong, stubborn little guy. He likes to do things his own way and doesn't like help doing them. He's super active and I'm pretty sure once he becomes fully mobile, he's going to keep me very very busy. Baby proofing, here we come!

Milestones

Hendrix is growing so much and learning new things every day

He's starting to get really good at sitting

When he's on his belly, he scoots around in circles, backwards

And sometimes flops over and thinks it's so funny

He does what I call "Face Crawling" where he plants his face, pushes off with his feet and scoots forward a bit

He sucks his thumb on occasion

He plays with his toes all the time

He figured out how to escape from his swing and one day I found him hanging off of it, pushing off the ground with his feet to make him swing-needless to say, he's always buckled in the swing now!

He still is a tummy sleeper and is oh so cute when he does it!

I can't believe how fast he's growing and how much he learns all the time!

Sorry, I'm struggling with getting the pictures to rotate and with a squirmy baby in my lap, I just don't have the patience to deal with it so you'll just have to turn your head! ;)

4 month appointment and shots

I took Hendrix in for his 4 month appointment today (a few weeks late) His appointment was actually supposed to be last week but on my way to the doctor's, my car broke down!

According to the doctor's office scale, Hendrix weighed exactly 16 pounds today-officially doubling his birth weight. This puts him in the 60th percentile for weight. His head measured 16.9 inches around putting him in the 50th percentile for head size. He's a tall boy so far, he's 26.4 inches long which puts him in the 80th percentile for height.

He wasn't so fond of the doctor poking and prodding at him and he cried pretty hard through the exam and he really started to wail during his shots!

I'm a terrible mommy!

Today Hendrix rolled off our bed! Anyone who has seen how high our bed is knows how scary this was! I had him in my lap and he always likes to roll out of my lap and I always catch him. Today he decided to roll the opposite direction than usual (toward the edge of the bed) and since I wasn't expecting it, I wasn't quick enough and he launched himself off my lap, off the bed and onto the floor!!! It scared the crap out of both of us! He cried pretty hard for a minute but it didn't sound like a pain cry, just a scared cry. I calmed him down, and he fell asleep in my arms. Since I was paranoid about him being injured, I woke him up and checked his little body for any red marks or any signs of distress. Thank goodness all seems to be well, he was laughing and smiling and babbling at me. We've got his 4 month appointment (and shots) tomorrow, I'm going to mention the tumble to the doctor just to be safe.

So now that Hendrix is a tummy sleeper, it's so fun to watch the new funny positions he sleeps in. His latest thing is sleeping with his hiney in the air! Cracks me up!

Tonight Hendrix got his first owie! Made me so sad! He was in the tub playing with a small bottle that I use to rinse his hair off with. He some how managed to get the entire opening of the bottle into his little mouth but then moved it too fast and scratched his gums. It bled a fair amount and the poor little guy cried pretty hard. I felt so bad!

Hendrix's First Solid Foods = FAIL!

We tried giving Hendrix rice cereal for the first time today and lets just say it wasn't so much a success! Hendrix kept spitting it out and made a big mess. It was pretty funny, whenever I'd put a bite in his mouth he'd spit it out and shake his head and shudder in disgust! I don't know how much if any actually got eaten but we'll keep trying.

Lots-O-Pictures

So I've been really busy lately. I'm finally all certified for work and I've started my new job. It's great to be able to work from home at nights while Hendrix sleeps. I have yet to figure out when I'm going to get some sleep but oh well!

Hendrix seems to learn something new every day. He has a musical seahorse in his crib that I always play when it's bed time and he's already learned how to restart the music on that. He is getting better at sitting up by himself, the other day he sat for more than a minute without falling over! He's discovered his carseat toy, it's got a pull-string on it that makes the toy vibrate and rattles. He'll sit there and pull on the string over and over again. He still loves to stand, any time he's fussy, standing him up will make him grin from ear to ear. He has become a tummy sleeper. I lay him down for the night in his crib in his back like I'm supposed to and right away he rolls over onto his belly and sleeps soundly for the rest of the night. I think this is pretty funny because he hates being on his belly during the day but loves to sleep that way. He is obsessed with TV and would watch it all day long if I let him. He'll even turn and contort his body so he can see the tv-see picture below:

I really didn't place the remote next to Hendrix, it just slid down off the pillow while he was watching tv!
