6 months old!

Hendrix is 6 months old today!

According to my bathroom scale he is 17 pounds, 7 ounces (we'll see what the doctor's office scale says on July 13) and he's 26 3/4 inches long.

He's so active and learning new things every day. He's almost perfected the art of sitting without flopping around too much, he has started to pull himself up to standing and can take a few steps along furniture. I'm quickly realizing how much work baby proofing the house is going to be-I'm exhausted just thinking about it!

Piano Man

Lately I just can't seem to keep up with Hendrix! He's crawling around so much and getting so fast! He's seemed kind of restless lately and today I realized he's probably bored with his toys! I had only been giving him toys that were really too young for him and he was ready for toys that he could interact with instead of just chew on. So today I brought out some of the more advanced toys, one of which was a little piano. He absolutely loves it!

Desperate times call for desperate measures...

Lately Hendrix has contracted a severe case of the wiggles! At least once a day, he'll be extremely fussy and hungry but refuses to sit still long enough to eat. So instead of eating, he'll continue to feel hungry and holler at me on and off for about a half hour before he decides he can be bothered with the burden of staying in one place while he eats. This morning we were having one of those episodes but it dragged on for about an hour. Finally I couldn't take it any more! I sat with him on the ground, put him between my legs, gently pinned his arms down with my legs and put the bottle in his mouth. It worked!!! Hooray! He looked so funny looking up at me with no arms! LOL

Standing Fool!

Today I was playing with Hendrix on the couch and I'd stand him up leaning forward against the couch cushions, he'd lean there for a bit laughing and then fall over. I'd put him back up there and we'd repeat the process. One point he fell to his knees so I leaned him up against the cushions while he was on his knees and I guess that wasn't good enough. He grabbed the top of the cushions and pulled himself up to the standing position! It's a good thing I lowered his crib mattress another notch today because I have a feeling that very soon I'm going to wake up in the morning to him standing in his crib.

Pool Party with a Lady Friend

I got a cheap little kiddie pool for Hendrix since I figure chlorine would harm his sensitive eczema covered skin. Yesterday Hendrix and Zoe had a little pool party.

This first picture cracks me up-it looks like she's asleep and he's trying to be sneaky and undress her! LOL!

Somethin' Fishy

Lately Hendrix has been doing this funny thing with his mouth, kind of like a fish breathing. It cracks me up!

His own kind of crawling

Hendrix is getting faster at crawling every day! He doesn't really army crawl or regular crawl, he just does his own thing! Almost like he gets up into a pushup and then lunges forward. Sometimes when he gets really excited and is trying to go really fast he does what almost looks like doing the breakdancing worm-I haven't been able to catch that one on video yet.

Sorry about the trashy looking only in a diaper baby in these videos, he'd just had a blow out diaper and was about a half hour away from bath time so there was no point in redressing him.

Peek A Boo

Hendrix loves his burp cloths, of all his toys, a puke rag is his favorite! So we've incorporated it in with play time and he now plays peek a boo with the burp rag!

Bikini Time!

Today I reached another 5 pound weightloss milestone! I'm now 1 pound away from being 40 below my pre pregnancy weight! My old bikini which I haven't worn since I was 19 now fits comfortably-yep, I have a 12 year old bikini!

Hooray!

Random acts of stupidity

This happened a few weeks ago and I've been meaning to blog about it but I kept forgetting.

Remember the loud mouth, outspoken, say exactly what's on her mind, call random strangers names to their faces Jessica who showed up sometime during my pregnancy? Well apparently she hasn't gone away yet and i think a portion of her is here to stay.

I was in Target and Hendrix was hungry as always so i had a bottle in his mouth. A 40-something woman walked up to me and told me how cute Hendrix is. Then she proceeded to chastise me for bottle feeding and said that breast milk is the best thing for my baby and that I'm selfish for denying him that. I was livid! She's lucky that my response was so mild! I told her "This is breast milk, I am doing what's best for my baby! Mind your own business!" and I walked away.

She and I were checking out at the same time, she looked at me really sheepishly but didn't say anything.

Also, two times this last week people asked me if my baby, who was wearing blue and sporting a mohawk, was a boy or a girl! Seriously? I might as well have been Hannah from "The Office" dressing him in pink and stating that it was his favorite color!

Lately Hendrix has been chewing on my fingers a lot so I did some investigating and I saw the beginnings of teeth in his mouth! His bottom right front tooth is getting close to the surface-I can see a little white thing under his gums. Luckily he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort yet but we'll see.

Tonight Hendrix had his first adventure in the bath tub without the infant tub. He's getting too big for the infant tub and just seems uncomfortable. I filled my bathtub with about an inch of water and laid him on his back in there and he thought it was the greatest thing ever! He kicked and splashed and laughed and squealed like never before! Big boy bath time was a success!

Homemade Organic Baby Food

This weekend I tried my hand at making baby food and it wasn't too difficult. In one afternoon I made 85 one ounce cubes of organic, completely all natural baby food for less than $15! For the same amount of pre-made organic baby food-that isn't completely all natural-I would have paid over $20. With as much as Hendrix eats, in the long run I'm hoping the savings will really add up. Plus it feels good knowing exactly what's in the food that I'm feeding him.

I made peaches, pears, carrots and apples. Next I'll do green beans, sweet potatoes, peas and mangoes. I fed Hendrix the peaches the other night and he LOVED them! He ate more that I've ever fed him and was still wanting more! SUCCESS!
