Cured!

I learned something today-Barrett's Esophagus is curable! I received a letter in the mail yesterday in regards to the biopsy they took during my scope last week. The letter said they found no pre-cancerous changes. I was so shocked-I didn't think that was possible, I thought I'd always have Barrett's. So I called my doctor's office for clarification and it is correct, I no longer have any pre-cancerous cells in my esophagus. HOORAY I'm CURED! The doctor said I've just got to keep doing what I'm doing and all will be well. Best news EVER! I could cry right now I'm so excited!

Men Should Get Cramps!

I've decided that men should have to experience cramps at least once in their lives. As kind, sweet and concerned as Matt is when I feel like yuck, he really has no clue what I'm going through. I think if all men at least once had to deal with the waves of pain that curl you into a ball and make Advil and a heating pad your best friend, they'd have such a greater understanding of why women are they way they are! I've heard that having kidney stones is as close as men will get to feeling labor pains so I guess Matt's off the hook as he's had them twice.

I will say, on the flip side, women should also have to experience the pain that men feel when they get hit in their business. I don't get how guys walk around with those things!

Barrett's Esophagus Update

Even though Barrett's Esophagus does not have a cure I must be doing something right because my scope went so well! My doctor said this scope actually looks way better than last years and depending on the biopsy results I may not need to go back for 3 years! YIPPEE! I'll still have to be on heavy duty acid reflux medication for the rest of my life but I can handle that.

Oh the Joys of Barrett's Esophagus

About a year ago I was diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus. What on earth is that, you ask? Well it's a pre-cancerous condition caused by severe chronic acid reflux. What happens with acid reflux is the stomach acid is constantly splashing up and irritating the lower portion of the esophagus. Over time, in an attempt to protect themselves from the acid, the cells that are affected basically turn into the same type of cells that are in the stomach lining. Great, now they're protected and better able to handle the acid right? Nope, because of the change it kind of makes those cells wig out and they have an elevated risk of turning cancerous. Barrett's Esophagus is a condition that will never go away, I'll have to live with it for the rest of my life. The only thing that can be done is closely monitoring the situation and diligently controlling the acid reflux. So to monitor the doctors put me out under general anesthesia and slide a small camera through my esophagus. So not only do I get to have a doctor root around in my nether regions every year merely because I happened to be born female, I also get to be knocked out every year and have a doctor shove machinery down my throat! Yeay! So much fun, two thumbs way up! ;)

Today I get to go in for my second scope since the diagnosis. I'm kind of nervous because the last time they said it took longer than it was supposed to in order to bring me out of the anesthesia. And no matter how many times I tell them I react strongly to any medication, they still give me the regular amount which a normal person won't feel the effects of after about an hour but I get to spend the next 8 hours or so feeling totally cracked out!

Matt and His Coworker's Coffee

So my dear sweet wonderful husband is quite possibly the funniest man I've ever encountered! Poor Matt has a coworker that he absolutely cannot stand. This guy is one of those type of people who always tells these outlandish crazy stories about things going on in his life which have no possibility of being truthful. He's also a real upstanding kind of guy-he brags about chewing tobacco in church and yet chastises other people for not being good church members. He also finds opportunities to belittle and degrade Matt even if the error was his fault, not Matt's.

So today Matt reached his limit. He already wasn't feeling well and just wanted to go home and this creep decided to have one of his unnecessary and unwarranted belittling sessions. So after all was said and done, I got the funniest text from Matt I've ever gotten and it said...

"I just put a booger in Blake's coffee"

Yes that's right, my darling 31-year-old fully grown adult husband put a booger in his coworker's coffee and I've never laughed so hard!

The Curious Case of the Amazing Flying Furball!

I so wish I'd caught some of this on camera but I was too slow and too shocked so I took pictures of the scene of the crime so you can grasp the insanity of the situation!

I came down to my living room and heard a cat meowing. It sounded like it was coming from up high but that isn't too unusual because the cats like to get on top of the kitchen cabinets. I looked in the kitchen and there was no cat to be found. She meowed again and I could hear it was coming from the living room. Then I saw her...

And just so you get a feel of the height of the situation, our home has 10' ceilings and the shelf is less than 2' from the ceiling.

After I'd gotten over the shock of the situation, I realized that Butters MUST learn that she cannot be up there-if she knocks anything over she'd break our TV. So I hollered at her to get down, she stood there frozen on the shelf knowing she was in BIG trouble. Then as if she was a flying squirrel, she leaped from the shelf across our living room onto the couch. I measured the distance that she jumped and it was over 12'!

This picture is a bit dark but you get the idea. My cat can FLY! Needless to say I chased her down after her flight and made sure she understands that getting up there is not an okay thing to do!

And lastly the culprit. Don't let that adorable face fool you, this little furball is full of mischief!

Oh Butters! You naught, naughty little beast! What are we going to do with you?

Ode to Cake and Ice Cream

Last Sunday we had Matt's Aunt Shelley and Uncle Ron over for dinner. I made a turkey for the first time ever and it was soooo yummy. Shelley was sweet enough to bring dessert-a homemade 9X13 yellow cake with chocolate icing and a half gallon of vanilla ice cream. Too many sweets for the 4 of us to eat so I'm still enjoying them! I'm not ashamed to admit that I've had cake and ice cream for dinner at least 3 times this week. Matt thinks I'm crazy because I like to put them in a bowl and mash and mix them all up until it's a cold, cakey, creamy blob!!! YUMMM!
That's all, just felt like sharing my cake and ice cream joy!

Am I the only one who has dreams about shoe shopping?

So I'm not sure if I've seen the preview for the movie "Confessions of a Shopaholic" too many times or what but last night I had the weirdest dream about shoe shopping. I was in a department store-can't remember which one-and I was looking at the shoes. Then I saw them...the most glorious pair of teal blue suede Prada ankle boots and better yet, they were on sale! They were originally $3.4 million(crazy right?) but were on sale for only $987! Only problem was they were a size 2 and the smallest shoes I can squeeze myself into are 3's. But I had to try them on anyway. They looked way too small-they were about the size of my hand so there's no way they should have fit. It must have been a Prada miracle-they fit and they were the most comfortable shoes I've ever had the pleasure of wearing! So now I had to figure out where to come up with nearly $1000 to pay for them. I wandered around the store with the boots still on with every step strengthening my resolve to own them. No matter how much I tried to rearrange my finances, I just didn't have a spare $1000 to spend on shoes-but really who does? The next thing I know I'm walking right out of the store with the boots still on my feet having NOT paid for them! No alarms were sounded, not security guards tackled me in the parking lot, I'd gotten away with stealing the coveted boots. Made it to my car and that's when I woke up.
So not only did I dream about shoe shopping but I dreamt about shoe shop-lifting! Wonder what it could mean?
